Our Spiritual Identity in Christ Series

Below you will find a collection of verses that describe the spiritual condition that people are in before coming into a relationship with God through Christ.

Before Christ we were:

Blind:

2 Corinthians 4:4
"in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God."

Evil:

Romans 3:10
"as it is written, "There is none righteous, not even one;"

Ephesians 2:3
"Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of your flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest."

1 Corinthians 6:9-11
"Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, [10] nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God. [11] And such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and in the Spirit of our God."

Slaves:

Ephesians 2:2
"in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience."

Romans 6:17,20
[17] "But thanks be to God that though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient to the heart to that form of teaching to which you were commited, [20] For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness."

2 Timothy 2:26
"and that they may come to their sense and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will."

Dead:

Ephesians 2:1
"And you were dead in your trespasses and sins,"

Romans 7:9
"And I was more alive apart from the Law; but when the commandment came, sin became alive, and I died;"

Colossians 2:13
"And when you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions,"

Separate / Excluded:

Ephesians 2:12
"remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded frrom the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world."
